Product details

Product Introduction

Commonly, colour masterbatch is a mixture of certain kinds of thermoplastic carrier (i.e. PA, PP, PE), types of additives & fillers, and more importantly pigment. Pigment for most of the colours (red, yellow, green, blue, etc) are mostly in liquid form. However, for carbon black masterbatch, the pigment is in solid form as carbon black powder. Carbon black powder is produced from incomplete burning of organic matters, usually coal, heavy oil or natural gas, etc. Nowadays, carbon black powder can also be obtained by burning natural organic matters, such as rice husk, etc.

In order to produce carbon black masterbatch, thermoplastic carrier, carbon black powder and additives (for lubrication, etc) will mix, melt and knead together within the twin screw extruder and then pelletized. Four types of pelletizing methods can be used for producing carbon black masterbatch, depending on the exact formulations and material property requirements: water strand pelletizing, water ring hot-face pelletizing, air cooling strand pelletizing and under/in water pelletizing.

Product Application

As carbon black masterbatch belongs to the colour masterbatch family, the twin screw extruder used to produce carbon black masterbatch can also produce many other types of plastics.

For those three pelletizing methods, below are the main applicable plastic formulations:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A.Can you provide the material formulation or help with product development along with the extruder production line?

We are always happy to support your product development programmes. With more than 20 years of experience in the plastic modification industry, we have learned many standard plastic formulations, including fully degradable PLA for bags & bottle and water/hot-soluble film, etc. We are also well connected with several experienced senior formulation experts and they will also support us with formulation developments.

B.What is your typical lead time?

Lead time to produce a full extruder production line varies depending on the size of the extruder. Typical lead time would be in the range from 15 days to 90 days.
